India's 12 Lakh Crore Maritime Revolution: Charting the Course to Become a Global Ship-Building Power
India has announced a massive ₹12 lakh crore boost to transform its shipbuilding industry and finally match its maritime ambitions. Though the country depends on the sea for most of its trade, it builds just 1% of the world’s ships. Backed by Sagarmala’s port upgrades and a revived Shipbuilding Financial Assistance policy, the Vision 2047 plan aims to push India into the global Top 10 by 2030 and Top 5 by 2047, focusing on green ships, local orders, and high-skill jobs.
